Required Knowledge for ENC StudentsAll cadets attending Basic Encampment should be able to perform basic drill maneuvers, know their customs and courtesies, and be able to recite from memory basic CAP information. It is very helpful for newer cadets to practice everything listed here with older cadets or seniors from their squadron prior to the Encampment.
Cadet should also spend time working on improving their physical fitness level (in whatever physical category they are) prior to attending Encampment. They should be familiar with the CAP Cadet Fitness Program in CAPP 52-18.
Cadets will spend time doing physical training each morning as well as participating in training events such as the Obstacle Course and Leadership Reaction Course. Weather permitting, each cadet will be given the opportunity to take the CAP Cadet Physical Fitness Test at the end of Encampment as required for their next achievement. Scores from the PFT will be recorded and sent home in the graduation packet for use for their next promotion.
Required Knowledge for CLS Students
All CLS students should be familiar and recall all information learned during their attendance at Encampment as these skills will be built upon during this school. All cadets MUST READ the Cadet Leadership School Student Manual found below page prior to arrival. The manual should be downloaded and all students must PRINT, SIGN, and BRING the Student Statement to hand in upon arrival.

Packing List
Please pay close attention to the packing list. The items listed as mandatory must be brought to ensure the comfort, safety, and health of the cadet. During contraband search, if it is found that a cadet is missing one of the items, they will be asked to go purchase these items with their parent/guardian at the base exchange or local Walmart. All items on the packing list can be easily found in several places:
- Uniform items can be found at the local squadron, The Hock Shop, CAP’s Vanguard, or a local Army/Navy Store.
- Personal items can be found at any drug store or large scale chain like Walmart, Target, K-Mart, etc.
Contraband List
It is extremely important to pay close attention to what is listed as contraband, or items that are NOT allowed to be brought to the ENC. Any cadet who brings contraband may be asked to leave the ENC. In extreme cases, this could also include CAP disciplinary action and police involvement.

Medication
All prescription and over-the-counter medication should be put into a ziplock bag and hand carried to in-processing. Your cadet will go over their medication and medical needs with the Medical Officer prior to being allowed into the ENC area.
Medication will be kept in the Medical Operations Building which is open and staffed 24/7. Just as in school or at home, each cadet is expected to be responsible for staying on their normal medication dosage routine. Any cadet who needs to have an EPI pen should either bring two or bring their prescription so that if they need to use it, another pen can be issued.
Any questions or concerns about anything related to medication or medical needs should be addressed with the Medical Officer prior to the start of ENC. To contact them, please visit the contact page.
Helpful Hints
Problems with packing or contraband can be solved by working with your home squadron to have a “run through” a week or two prior to the ENC. The cadet can pack their gear and bring it to the squadron and have a cadet staff or senior member go through the gear with them item by item and check it off on the list. This will greatly help the cadet pass smoothly through in-processing at the Encampment.
